Corona Virus VS Flu Symptoms – Which Is Worse?

Many people are searching to find how similar the Corona virus vs flu symptoms are. It hasn’t taken too long for the Corona virus to make it’s debut, launching itself into the year 2020 creating a worldwide pandemic.

Let’s take a look at the symptoms to see exactly how the corona virus differs from the flu.

Coronavirus Overview

First identified in Wuhan, China and is associated with mild-to-severe respiratory illness with fever and cough.

Since then, it’s been spreading quiet quickly from person to person. Cases have been detected in most countries worldwide on March 11, the Corona Virus outbreak was classed as a pandemic by WHO (World Health Organization).

What is coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that are common in both humans and animals. They can cause mild-to-moderate respiratory illnesses.

What are the symptoms of coronavirus infection?

Patients with confirmed COVID-19 have had mild-to-severe respiratory illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.

Symptoms of Corona can include:

  • Fever
  • Dry Cough/Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Aches and pains (sometimes)
  • Headaches (sometimes)

Flu Overview

The flu has been around for years, although it hasn’t created a worldwide pandemic, it is also, one of the most common causes of death.

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by viruses that infect the nose, throat and sometimes the lungs.

Older people, young children and people with certain chronic conditions (asthma, heart disease, diabetes, among others) are at increased risk for serious complications, including pneumonia. This is similar to Corona virus, the elderly, children, and people with underlying health related problems are most vulnerable.

What are the symptoms of the flu?

Flu symptoms are more intense than those associated with a cold and usually come on suddenly, including a fever higher than 100.5 degrees, extreme exhaustion, severe muscle or body aches, a dry cough and chills.

The flu can also spread person-to-person like the corona virus before symptoms are even apparent as well as while you are sick.

People with the flu are most contagious in the first 3-4 days after their illness begins. However, it can take upto 7 days for the symptoms to fully develop.

Symptoms of Flu can include:

  • Fever and/or chills
  • Cough (can be dry or wet) along with a sore throat, sometimes
  • Fatigue
  • Aches and pains
  • Runny or stuffy nose (sometimes)
  • Diarrhea (sometimes in children)

It’s important to remember that, although we feel very unwell during the flu, antibiotics won’t help. Antibiotics are not made to combat any viral infections. Usually, the infections just need to run their course, so it’s best to just wait and watch.

What’s the difference between this coronavirus and the flu?

As the Corona virus is still emerging, research is still being undertaken to learn more about it’s transmission. Unlike flu which has been around for several years, the main difference between the two is the length it can take to appear.

Flu is more likely to appear with rapid onset of illness, high fever and prominent headache and body aches. In contrast, Corona may present with slower onset of illness, mild headache and body ache and mild/absent fever.

Coronavirus vs. the flu: Which is a greater threat?

Both the flu and corona virus can be a threat for the very young, the elderly, and those with underlying medical conditions.

Does this mean the world should have always been in a state of pandemic? because Flu isn’t very different from the Corona virus itself? hmm
